Catherine Deneuve Parfum 1 oz (30ml) Splash Orig. Parfums Phenix Vintage 1980s
An elegant and unmistakably luxurious survivor from the bold fragrance era of the 1980s, this original Catherine Deneuve parfum captures the rich presentation style and deep parfum concentration associated with the earliest Parfums Phenix production bottles. The sculptural Art Deco-inspired bottle design, warm amber coloration of the perfume, and substantial glass construction combine to create a striking vanity-display piece that immediately stands apart from the later reformulated versions.
Available today is this elegant, new, mid-1980s vintage, original and authentic Catherine Deneuve parfum (perfume) splash in a generous 1 oz (30ml) size by the original Parfums Phenix Inc., made in France (Reference Number: 1001-00; Pre-UPC). This is NOT the later reformulation distributed by Parfums Stern. Photos were taken at high magnification to best highlight overall item condition. The buyer will receive the exact item pictured.
Please Note: The clear distributor’s sticker is missing from the base of this bottle; however, it is absolutely an original 1980s Parfums Phenix Inc. bottle rather than a later Parfums Stern reformulation. This can be identified through the noticeably deeper amber coloration of the contents versus the much lighter yellow coloration commonly associated with the 1990s Stern-era bottles. Additionally, the fragrance itself remains rich and robust rather than flat or muted, which further distinguishes the earlier production. The bottle approximately measures 2.45 inches in height (top to bottom), 3.65 inches wide (left to right), and 1.2 inches deep (front to back), dimensions consistent with the 1 oz (30ml) parfum size from this period.
This bottle can be ascribed as being from approximately the mid-1980s based on the original Parfums Phenix distribution attribution, absence of a UPC barcode, earlier bottle presentation style, and deeper amber parfum coloration associated with pre-reformulation production.
Condition is excellent overall for its age. The bottle retains strong visual clarity with clean glass surfaces, crisp molded detailing, and excellent presentation appeal. The perfume exhibits beautiful deep coloration consistent with well-preserved vintage parfum concentration. As with many authentic vintage parfum bottles of this era, minor cosmetic wear from age, storage, or handling may be present upon close magnified inspection. Collector Notes
Early Parfums Phenix Catherine Deneuve parfum bottles have become increasingly difficult to locate, particularly in the larger 1 oz (30ml) concentration size and with preserved original parfum coloration. Many surviving examples encountered today are later Parfums Stern reformulations, which differ noticeably in scent profile, coloration, and overall richness. The heavier amber coloration seen here is widely recognized among collectors as characteristic of the earlier and more desirable Phenix-era production. The substantial low-profile bottle design also displays exceptionally well alongside other 1980s French designer fragrances. Why This Bottle Stands Out vs. Later Versions
Unlike the later Parfums Stern reformulations from the 1990s onward, this original Parfums Phenix version retains the darker amber parfum coloration and richer, fuller aromatic profile associated with the earliest production years following the fragrance’s launch. Collectors frequently seek out these earlier bottles specifically because the later reformulations are often considered noticeably lighter, flatter, and less complex than the original composition. Fragrance History
1985: Catherine Deneuve by Parfums Phenix launches as an elegant mossy-woods fragrance associated with the sophisticated glamour and cinematic mystique of Catherine Deneuve herself.
Late 1980s: The fragrance gains recognition for its refined French composition and distinctive sculptural bottle presentation.
1990s: Distribution transitions to Parfums Stern, accompanied by reformulation changes and noticeable differences in perfume coloration and overall scent richness.
Present Day: Early Parfums Phenix bottles remain significantly more desirable among vintage fragrance collectors due to their richer composition, darker parfum coloration, and original pre-reformulation character.
Originally launched in 1985, Deneuve is classified as a mossy-woods fragrance featuring top notes of lemon, mandarin, basil, and angelica; middle notes of violet, lily of the valley, jasmine, and marigold; resting on a luxurious base of heliotrope, oak moss, myrrh, vetiver, vanilla, patchouli, benzoin, sandalwood, and musk. The fragrance is remembered for combining refined French femininity with the bold, confident depth characteristic of prestige 1980s parfum compositions.
