Quantity

A spectacular oversized survivor from the early years of Yves Saint Laurent fragrance, this vintage Y Eau de Toilette is housed in an enormous 8-ounce (240ml) French-made splash flacon. The architectural rectangular bottle, sculptural white cap, minimalist black typography, and prominent Y initial embody the restrained modernism associated with early Saint Laurent fragrance presentation. At nearly a quarter liter, this unusually large format makes an impressive display piece as well as a remarkable surviving example of vintage French perfumery.

Available today is this 1970s vintage, original and authentic (Reference Number: 10.250), made in France, Y Eau de Toilette splash in a huge 8-ounce (240ml) size by Yves Saint Laurent. The bottle itself is molded “BOTTLE MADE IN FRANCE,” “NET CONT 8 FL. OZ,” and “240 ML,” together with the YSL monogram. All photos were taken at high magnification to best highlight overall item condition. The buyer will receive the exact item pictured. Dating & Authentication

Y was introduced in 1964 as the first fragrance from Yves Saint Laurent, placing it at the very beginning of the fashion house's perfume history. The original Y substantially predates later YSL classics such as Rive Gauche and Opium and should not be confused with the unrelated modern Y men's fragrance.

This bottle's French manufacture, molded glass markings, early YSL monogram, Reference Number 10.250, oversized 8-ounce splash format, white cap, minimalist typography, and absence of a UPC/barcode are consistent with an early vintage presentation. These characteristics support dating this example to the 1970s. Condition

This substantial glass flacon remains in excellent vintage display condition. The front Yves Saint Laurent, Eau de Toilette, and large Y lettering remain beautifully preserved, as does the sculptural white cap. The fragrance retains a rich golden-amber coloration.

No original outer packaging is included. Please review all photographs carefully for the exact condition and remaining fill level, as the buyer will receive the exact bottle pictured. Why This Item Stands Out

The extraordinary size immediately distinguishes this example. At 8 fluid ounces or 240ml, this bottle originally contained nearly a quarter liter of Y Eau de Toilette and is dramatically larger than the personal-use presentations most commonly encountered today.

It also preserves the distinctive visual language of early YSL fragrance design: a substantial geometric French glass flacon, stark white cap, restrained typography, and the solitary Y identifying both the fragrance and its connection to Yves Saint Laurent.

Most importantly, this is the original women's Y introduced in 1964, representing the very beginning of Yves Saint Laurent's fragrance history. Collector's Notes

Y holds a particularly important position in Yves Saint Laurent history because it was the designer's first fragrance. Introduced in 1964, only a few years after Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé established the fashion house, Y extended the emerging Saint Laurent aesthetic into perfumery.

The fragrance was conceived in the great French chypre tradition, combining aldehydes and vivid green materials with fruit, an expansive floral heart, oakmoss, woods, resins, and animalic depth. Vintage bottles preserve a fragrance profile strongly associated with the sophisticated chypres of mid-century French perfumery.

For collectors, this particular bottle combines several desirable characteristics: 1970s vintage production, French manufacture, enormous 8-ounce size, Eau de Toilette concentration, splash presentation, early YSL branding, molded French base markings, Reference Number 10.250, original contents, and exceptional display presence. Originally launched in 1964, Y is classified as a green fruity chypre fragrance. The original composition opens with aldehydes, green notes, galbanum, honeysuckle, peach, gardenia, and mirabelle plum; its floral heart combines hyacinth, orris root, ylang-ylang, jasmine, tuberose, and Bulgarian rose; and the fragrance rests on a substantial base of oakmoss, civet, vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood, benzoin, styrax, and amber. The combination of crisp green materials, luminous florals, fruit, earthy oakmoss, woods, resins, and animalic depth gives vintage Y the complex, structured character of a classic French chypre.
