Jean D'Albret Ecusson Body Nectar 0.50 oz (15ml) Perfume Oil Vintage 1960s-1970s
A beautiful survivor from the golden age of postwar French perfumery, this original Ecusson Body Nectar captures the elegance and complexity that made Jean D'Albret fragrances highly regarded among discerning perfume enthusiasts. The rich amber-colored contents, softly frosted glass bottle, and distinctive oval metallic label featuring an embossed fleur-de-lis motif create a striking display piece that reflects the sophistication of classic French fragrance design.
Available today is this rare, late 1960s to 1970s vintage, authentic Ecusson Body Nectar in a 0.50 oz (15ml) frosted glass bottle by Jean D'Albret, made in France. The decorative front label is marked "ECUSSON BODY NECTAR 1/2 OZ." and includes a New York, N.Y. 10019 distributor address. The bottle base is marked "GIFT NOT FOR RESALE." Photos were taken at high magnification to best highlight overall item condition.
This bottle can be ascribed as being from approximately the mid-1960s to mid-1970s based on its original Jean D'Albret labeling, the presence of the New York, N.Y. 10019 distributor address on the front label, the classic Ecusson Body Nectar presentation format, and the fact that Ecusson was discontinued during the original Jean D'Albret era prior to the later Orlane ownership period. The "GIFT NOT FOR RESALE" base marking indicates that this bottle was likely distributed as part of a promotional offering, deluxe gift set, or special presentation rather than as a standalone retail item.
Body Nectar was a concentrated perfumed oil preparation intended to provide a richer and longer-lasting fragrance experience than traditional eau de toilette presentations. This particular bottle was produced as a promotional or gift item, making it substantially less common than standard retail Ecusson bottles. Such specialty presentations were often distributed in limited quantities and are seldom encountered today.
Condition is very good vintage condition. The bottle retains its original contents and displays beautifully. Please note that there is a small surface scratch on the lower front portion of the bottle, visible in the photographs. The buyer will receive the exact item pictured.
Collector Notes
Original Jean D'Albret Ecusson products have become increasingly difficult to locate since the closure of the original company and the subsequent discontinuation of the fragrance. Collectors often seek surviving bottles from the original French production era, particularly specialty formats such as Body Nectar, which were produced in much smaller quantities than standard fragrance presentations.
The decorative oval label, embellished with an embossed fleur-de-lis motif, gives this bottle a distinctly French presentation aesthetic that complements the Ecusson name, which translates to "coat of arms." Combined with the frosted glass body and rich amber-colored contents, the bottle possesses an unmistakably vintage luxury appearance.
Why This Bottle Stands Out vs. Later Versions
This bottle represents the original Jean D'Albret interpretation of Ecusson rather than later revivals associated with subsequent trademark ownership. Collectors generally distinguish original Jean D'Albret Ecusson products from later reformulations because of differences in composition, presentation, and historical significance. The Body Nectar format is especially desirable due to its relative scarcity and connection to the fragrance's original production period.
Fragrance History
1947: Ecusson is introduced by Jean D'Albret. Its name, meaning "coat of arms" in French, reflects the fragrance's refined and aristocratic positioning.
1947–1977: Ecusson becomes one of the signature fragrances of the Jean D'Albret house and develops a reputation for its exceptionally complex aldehydic-floral-chypre composition.
1977: Jean D'Albret ceases operations, and the original Ecusson formulation is discontinued.
1978: Orlane acquires Jean D'Albret and reintroduces Ecusson under new ownership.
Mid-1980s: Ecusson is discontinued for a second time.
1995: The Ecusson name and trademark are acquired by Irma Shorell's Long Lost Perfumes and relaunched using a newly created formulation rather than the original Jean D'Albret composition.
Ecusson is generally classified as an aldehydic-floral-chypre fragrance featuring a remarkably elaborate composition built around sparkling aldehydes and citrus notes, an expansive floral heart of roses, jasmine, carnation, violet, iris, narcissus, and tuberose, and a rich base of patchouli, oakmoss, leather, sandalwood, musk, tonka bean, vanilla, and other classic chypre materials. Originally launched in 1947, Ecusson remains one of the most celebrated fragrances associated with the Jean D'Albret name.
